FAQ

Q: Isn't Shinjuku lonely solo?

A: A 24/7 city — you don't get bored. Counter seating made for solo diners is everywhere, and solo customers are the norm in Golden Gai.

Q: Does English work in Golden Gai?

A: Depends on the bar. Pick spots with a "foreigners welcome" sticker. From 18:00-21:00 it's mostly locals, foreign visitors pick up after 22:00.

Q: Downsides of capsule hotels?

A: Noise leakage from neighbors on the same floor, tight quarters (only enough to lie down or sit), and strict morning checkout times.

Q: Can you do ¥5,000/day in Shinjuku?

A: Capsule ¥3,500 + meals ¥1,500 = about ¥5,000. Doable if you stick to free sights (parks, observation decks).

Q: Is Kabukicho safe solo at night?

A: Brightly lit main streets are fine — watch out for back alleys and street touts. After midnight, head back toward Shinjuku Station.
