Revolut Virtual Card → Apple Pay → Japan ATM Tutorial
End-to-end flow from a fresh Revolut account to cash in hand at a 7-Bank ATM. Note: weekday FX is 0% but weekends carry a +1% premium — withdraw on weekdays when possible.
What you need: a smartphone (iOS 16+ recommended), your passport, 20-30 minutes.
Download Revolut + sign up
Phone + SMS auth to start. Standard plan is enough for tourism.
KYC with passport
Photograph passport + auto-selfie. Usually approved in 5-15 minutes.
Issue virtual card
Cards → + Add new → choose regular Virtual (not Disposable — those can't be added to Apple Pay).
Card details revealed
Card number, expiry, and CVV shown immediately.
Add to Apple Wallet
Tap "Add to Apple Wallet" → Face ID → done.
Enable overseas usage
Cards → Settings → ensure "Online transactions," "Contactless," and "ATM withdrawals" are all ON.
Pick language at the 7-Bank ATM
English (or one of 12 other languages).
Choose "Smartphone" not Card
Tap Smartphone (QR-based withdrawal).
Scan the QR with Revolut
In Revolut: Cards → "Cash withdrawal" → scan the ATM's QR.
Confirm amount, get cash
Enter amount (¥1,000-¥100,000 in ¥1,000 increments) → confirm → cash dispenses.
Standard plan: ¥32,000/month free ATM, 0% FX on weekdays. To dodge the weekend +1% premium, withdraw on a Friday afternoon to cover the weekend.
