Pick one = USJ (Harry Potter + Nintendo World dominate) / Family = Disney (characters + comfort) / Both = Disney then USJ, allow 5 days
USJ (Osaka) holds the exclusive **Harry Potter + Super Nintendo World** inventory and is wildly popular with 20-30s inbound travelers. ¥10,900-12,400 per day plus an Express Pass at ¥7,800-15,000. Tokyo Disney covers **Disneyland + DisneySea** across two parks — ideal for families, couples, and character fans. ¥7,900-10,900 per day plus Premier Pass at ¥1,500-2,500 per attraction. **Time-wise USJ can be done in 1-2 days, while Disney's two parks need at least 2 days**.
Disney is about ¥3,000 cheaper, but on peak days both hit ¥10,900
USJ bundles 4 in one buy, Disney is flexible per-attraction
Disney needs at least 2 days to conquer both parks
USJ is in Kansai, Disney is in Kanto
Both require Express/Premier (without one you cover only half the park)
Both match official pricing and add Klook Credit / KKday Points cashback
Disney's child tickets are ¥1,000-2,000 cheaper, better value for families
USJ, hands down. Harry Potter + Super Nintendo World are exclusive to USJ and score huge with 20-30s couples. Disney exists worldwide, so the 'only-in-Japan' experience belongs to USJ. Budget ¥20,000-25,000 per person for a 1-day ticket plus Express Pass.
Hit both Disney parks (Land + Sea) over 2 days. Child tickets are cheap — ¥4,700 for ages 4-11, around 60% of adult price. Around ¥30,000 for the family per day; ¥60,000 over 2 days, plus a modest Premier Pass spend covers every must-ride.
**Plan Disney first, then USJ**. 3 days in Tokyo (2 Disney + 1 sightseeing) → 2 days in Kyoto → 3 days in Osaka (1 USJ + 2 sightseeing). Budget ¥40,000-60,000 per person for parks plus 4-5 Express/Premier Passes plus surrounding sightseeing.
1.5 days USJ + 1.5 days Osaka sightseeing. Weekday USJ ¥10,900 + Express Pass 4 ¥10,000 = ¥21,000 covers a full day. Use the remaining half-day to revisit the Harry Potter area and grab souvenirs. Skip Disney since it's in Kanto.
2 days for Disney's two parks (Land + Sea) plus 3 days exploring Tokyo. 3-4 Premier Passes per day x 2 days = ¥10,000-15,000 cuts wait times by more than half. USJ is in Kansai, so save it for another trip.
Go for USJ's Halloween (Sep-Nov) or Demon Slayer collab windows (limited dates). Disney also runs Halloween, but USJ allows more cosplay freedom — Disney is stricter, especially around kid-friendly imagery.
Disneyland first. **Seniors can ride plenty of attractions** — exclude the coasters and there are still 30+ options, plus character meets and parades fill the day. USJ is heavier on thrill rides and will wear them out faster.
Disney is ¥7,000 cheaper, but if Harry Potter + Nintendo World are the draw, USJ delivers higher satisfaction. For a single-day plan, USJ wins.
Disney needs at least 2 days to clear both parks. ¥38,800 unlocks 70+ attractions — great value for families and couples alike.
For a family of 4, Disney comes out ¥11,600 cheaper. Add only the Premier Passes you actually need and it's the strongest family budget option.
Roughly ¥88,600 per person all in. Includes Express/Premier Passes for both — the strongest 10-day Japan itinerary.
Without Passes, Disney rotates faster. USJ realistically requires a Pass — peak waits hit 90-120 min.
Beyond USJ and Disney, several other parks and amusement venues appeal to inbound travelers: - **Huis Ten Bosch (Nagasaki)** — Dutch streetscape replica with spectacular night illuminations, ¥7,000 per day - **Fuji-Q Highland (Yamanashi)** — Thrill-ride specialist, free pass ¥7,800, with Mt. Fuji views - **Yomiuriland (Tokyo)** — Smaller scale at ¥5,800, popular with local families, rarely crowded - **Sanrio Puroland (Tokyo)** — Hello Kitty-themed, ¥4,900, fully indoor so rain-proof - **Nagashima Spa Land (Mie)** — Day-trippable from Kansai, thrill rides plus hot springs, ¥6,200 Combo strategies: - **USJ 1 day + Kyoto and Nara sightseeing** — 4-day Kansai-only itinerary, ¥40,000 per person - **Disney 2 days + Yokohama and Kamakura sightseeing** — 5-day Kanto-only itinerary, ¥50,000 per person - **Both + Fuji-Q Highland** — Three parks across 6 days, ¥80,000 per person, perfect for thrill-seekers
USJ tickets: buy on Klook (¥10,900-12,400) or KKday (same price) before you leave, scan the QR on arrival and skip the ticket window. Disney tickets: book via the official site or KKday/Klook (Premier Pass can also be purchased same-day inside the park). **Only Fantasy Springs (DisneySea's new area) requires advance booking** and sells out fast — lock it in 3 months ahead.
**USJ wins on tourist share, exclusive content, and value**. Harry Potter + Super Nintendo World live only at USJ Japan and can't be experienced anywhere else. Disney exists worldwide, so the 'only in Japan' factor goes to USJ. That said, families and travelers with young kids will feel more comfortable at Disney (broader attraction lineup).
**During peak periods (Golden Week, summer, New Year, weekends) it's essential**. Without a Pass you'll manage just 4-6 attractions per day (waits of 90-150 min); with one you can hit 10-15. USJ's Express Pass 4 (¥7,800-15,000) bundles four attractions, while Disney's Premier Pass is sold per attraction (¥1,500-2,500) for flexibility.
**Advance booking is mandatory and sells out in minutes**. The official Tokyo Disney Resort app opens reservations 60 days out, sometimes selling out within 30 seconds. Klook/KKday can also work, but the safest path is the official app at 9:00 JST exactly 60 days ahead. Anna and Elsa, Rapunzel, and Peter Pan are the most contested attractions.
**Without a Pass: Disney (faster rotation)**. **With a Pass: roughly equal**. USJ practically requires a Pass — Harry Potter routinely runs 90-120 min — while Disney's non-headline rides settle around 30-60 min. With Passes, both parks can deliver 10-15 attractions per day.
**Rarely a problem**. Both USJ and Disney accept Visa / Master / JCB / Amex; USJ fully supports UnionPay (Disney accepts it only in some places). Apple Pay and Google Pay work at gates and shops. For local card spend, **Wise/Revolut give you 0.4-0.65% FX margins**, which is the best result.
**USJ: Universal City Station (11 min from Osaka Station on the JR Yumesaki Line, ¥190)**. **Disney: Maihama Station (15 min from Tokyo Station on the JR Keiyo Line, ¥220)**. Both are minutes on foot from the station. If you're carrying luggage, stash it at your hotel first.
**Disney's official hotels offer real perks** — 15-minute early entry plus rolling out of bed straight into the park — but cost ¥30,000-80,000 per night. USJ's official hotels also include 15-minute early entry at ¥20,000-50,000 per night. **If you're budget-minded, mid-range hotels near Maihama or Sakurajima at ¥10,000-15,000 are plenty**, with many within a 10-minute walk.
**Both parks prohibit outside food and drinks** (sealed water bottles are fine). In-park meals run ¥1,500-2,500. If your hotel includes breakfast, eating outside before you enter is okay. **Pizza, churros, turkey legs, and other theme-park staples at ¥800-1,500 are part of the experience — try them**.
**Both parks handle rain well**. Disney has plenty of covered attractions and indoor theaters, and rainy days can mean shorter waits. USJ also offers strong indoor anchors (Harry Potter, Nintendo). **Rainy days can even let you skip the Pass**, so bring a jacket and poncho.
**If the seasonal events are your goal, come anyway**. Disney's Christmas (Nov - Dec 25) and Halloween (Sep - Oct 31) deliver unbeatable atmosphere. USJ's Halloween Horror Nights (Sep - Oct 31) is a world-class horror event. **Pricing matches regular periods**, but check the official site for any same-day entry caps.
This page reflects USJ official, Tokyo Disney Resort official, Klook, and KKday pricing as of May 2026. Prices flex by date (date-based pricing), so double-check on each operator's site right before you buy. Premier Pass / Express Pass can sell out — secure them 1-2 months ahead during peak periods.
