Quick answers about using Yen Finder
Yen Finder collects exchange-shop rates across Japan and surfaces the best deals on a map and a ranked list. We cover airports, central Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka. Free to use, no signup.
Shops that publish rates online (Travelex, World Currency Shop, etc.) are scraped hourly. User-submitted photos go live instantly. Most counters only re-quote a few times per day, so the displayed timestamp is plenty fresh for a same-day decision.
Every Monday: this week's FX trend, best shops to watch, and one Japan-travel tip. Free, unsubscribe anytime.
Email used for the newsletter only. Never shared.
Yen Finder is completely free. You don't book anything through us — you just walk into the shop with the address. We do earn an affiliate commission if you sign up for Wise or Revolut via a link in our tips, but that doesn't change the price for you.
Rule of thumb: pulling yen from a Japanese ATM with a Wise or Revolut card is usually cheapest (mid-market + ~0.5%). Credit-card swipes add ~1.6%, cash exchange counters 1–3% depending on the shop. On a ¥100,000 exchange that's a ¥1,000–2,000 spread.
Google and bank quotes show the mid-market rate — a benchmark that nobody actually trades at. Exchange counters take a 1–3% spread on top. Yen Finder shows both, so you can see exactly how much below mid-market each shop is.
